Course Description:

 This workshop will introduce the technique of Music Imagery Relaxation (MIR), which has been shown to effectively reduce post-operative pain in medical settings with pediatric and adult patients.  The aim is for the client to have a vivid positive experience in an altered state of consciousness utilizing a personalized relaxation script accompanied by relaxing classical music. Through didactic and experiential learning, participants will learn basic methods for assessment, treatment goals, and procedures to reduce stress and pain. Participants will develop skills to write music and imagery scripts to achieve clinical goals. The information provided in this workshop would be beneficial to anyone who works in a medical setting and is interested in imagery and relaxation music therapy techniques.

Course Objectives

  1. Participants will learn music and imagery relaxation (MIR) techniques that focus on reducing stress, anxiety, or pain for patients in medical settings

  2. Participants will learn methods for assessment and development of effective client-centered inductions to facilitate imagery

  3. Participants will learn skills to design and implement individualized and group MIR sessions

About the Instructor

Holly Mentzer, MA, MT-BC, LCATreceived her MA in music therapy from New York University.  She is a music therapist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and has worked with children with developmental delays at HeartSong. Ms. Mentzer has presented at interdisciplinary conferences and music therapy conferences. Holly also performs with early music ensembles in New York, and is the alto section leader at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Larchmont.

Cancellations prior to two weeks before a scheduled training receive a refund minus a $15 processing fee. Participants who cancel their enrollment less than 10 days before the first continuing education session will not be refunded but can receive credit towards a future training. A full refund or credit is given to participants with unexpected medical or personal emergencies. If Dancing Dialogue LCAT LMHC PLLC cancels the entire workshop or training your paid fee will be refunded in full or credited to another workshop at your request. If you transfer to another workshop and then cancel, do not attend or leave early there is no further transfer.  For clinicians with more than one license, an additional CE certificate can be purchased towards your second license CE requirement at the cost of $25.
