Course Description

Join senior supervisor, Dr. Suzi Tortora, as she shares techniques on providing reflective, embodied and attuned clinical supervision that she has developed over the past thirty-five years. This is a course for anyone, whether they would like to start providing clinical supervision or are seasoned supervisors wishing to deepen their craft. Topics will include: the practice of reflective supervision to support collaboration between the supervisor and supervisee; perfecting active, attuned and embodied listening; how to gently question assumptions or countertransference held by your supervisee; the use of creative arts modalities like movement, art and journaling to help your supervisees deepen their conception of what is going on in the nonverbal realms of their caseload as it relates to their own internal experiences and history.

A second portion of this course, in which these theories are applied and clinical material is discussed will be offered in the spring. More information to be announced.

Learning Objectives Include:

  1. Learn three (3) techniques for embodied dance/ movement therapy-informed clinical supervision that attends to felt-body experiences of supervisees.

  2. Developing four (4) methods for incorporating nonverbal creative processes into traditional clinical supervision to help supervisees more deeply process their countertransference, supporting attention to subtext and assumptions during reflections.

  3. Understand the three (3) building blocks of reflective supervision to support attuned and active listening and collaboration with your supervisees.
